THE MUSIC UNIT
The music unit of the centre is established to train interested people in music with special interest in the people with disabilities.
The music unit takes care of both instrumental training and vocal training. We have a standing orchestra – Des Rubatos and a singing group – Pilgrim Voices . Interested and qualified individuals are invited to join as volunteers. Please send your mail to tony@disabledcentre.org stating your qualifications and ability on either your instrument or voice.
DES RUBATOS This is a group of volunteers on orchestra instruments. It is a classical orchestra with 30 members on roll to perform in full presentation. We also have different formations like chamber orchestra of about 10, the brass ensemble of about 10, the woodwind ensemble of about 6, the string quartet, the wind orchestra of about 12.
THE PILGRIM VOICES The Pilgrim Voices is basically a group of singers in pure Gospel Music. We sing just Gospel Classics but sparingly Gospel contemporaries. The dearth of real gospel music in our society is becoming very obvious and it is giving a number of individual real concerns. We learnt that the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God – Rev. E. A. Adeboye of recent gave an advice that will move people back to hymns. With inspiration and a way out of these problems in the gospel music, the group came up to provide a way of reviving the pure gospel music in Nigeria . Its aims and objectives will include; reviving gospel music in Nigeria, training interested people on gospel music, produce & discover talents with special interest on the less privileged and to record & distribute gospel music on tapes across the country and beyond.
